Minimum Qualifications:

- 15 years of experience in engineering, and experience with technical innovation.
- Experience leading full stack engineering and distributed systems engineering teams.

About the Job:
As Principal Engineer, you will advance the technology powering YouTube Search to unlock the power of AI for higher quality results, novel search experiences, and increased YouTube viewership. You will drive the YouTube Search engine to be the #1 video search engine.
The YouTube Search stack is complex, combining the richness of the Google Search stack with the intricacies of the YouTube stack. Mastering it and advancing its performance, while relying on a modest-sized engineering team, is a significant challenge. You will manage technical problems across diverse domains, including AI and ML, search ranking, trust and safety, infrastructure, feature development, and developer experience.
You will drive the technical strategy for YouTube Search, defining how the technology should evolve to meet product needs, leverage new technologies, and support developer innovation. You will define a technical roadmap, collaborating with managers, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers to lay out the system architecture and prioritize work items. This role involves making technical decisions, such as design approvals, and driving collaborations with other teams within YouTube and Google. You will stay up-to-date with the latest technology and research, share relevant information with the team, mentor and educate engineers, and cultivate a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the overall integration strategy for YouTube Search, identifying key opportunities to increase the value that YouTube delivers to the world.
- Partner with Product Management, Design, Marketing, Legal, and other teams to design, develop, launch, and improve integrations.
- Use data and insights to measure the success of integrations, identify areas for improvement, and inform future strategies.
