The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) organization is seeking a Electric Vehicle (EV) Safety Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with Amazon Worldwide Design Engineering teams to ensure new equipment and modifications to existing EV infrastructure equipment, installed on Amazon campuses comply with all applicable codes, regulations and harmonized standards. You will also partner with various engineering, design and operations teams including, Operations Engineering, Global Hydrogen Economy, Fire Life Safety, Solar Infrastructure, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Business Operations Leaders, Field WHS teams, and other key stakeholders. In addition, you will be required to lead process hazard analyses (PHAs), assist in the development and review of equipment designs and provide guidance on requirements on controls and devices.

This role requires an effective communicator and someone to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing and possess excellent program management skills. This role requires knowledge in control systems, environmental and ergonomic design principles. This role required an applied understanding of regional and international regulations, codes and standards. This role will functionally partner with all engineering teams to drive a systematic approach to address risk identification, mitigation, and management of safety solutions.

This position requires travel up to 50% of the time.

About the team
The Global PSM team’s mission is to ensure the safe design and reliable operation of facilities that contain or use Highly Hazardous Chemicals (HHCs). Our mission is to provide the necessary support so Amazon can achieve the 2040 Climate Pledge responsibly and in a manner that safeguards the safety of our associates and the community at large.

Program Strategy: the team focus is on building a safety program that reduces the HHC risks at Amazon to as low as reasonably possible. To do so, we are working to establish process safety frameworks in four important aspects of HHC processes:
Technology – Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Safe work practices
Facilities – Mechanical Integrity, Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews, Management of Change (MOC)
Personnel – Process Safety Training, Process Safety Incident Investigations
Audit and Assurance – Monitor program performance and maturation


- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Experience in safety engineering programs in manufacturing or production environment
- Experience working within a global company, with global or multi-country responsibilities
- Knowledge and understanding of certification bodies for approvals that comply with local, national and international regulations
- Knowledge of the core business systems and/or broad understanding of company systems/ technologies (relevant to safety engineering)
- Working knowledge and experience with National Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) and Notified Bodies.
- Knowledge of International and EU/NA Standards such as EU Machinery Directive, ISO, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA

- Master’s degree preferred - Mechanical, Structural, Electrical or Industrial Engineer
- CSME or other functional safety certification
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adapting the approach to meet the needs of customers, business and program stakeholders, and engineering teams involved
- Ability to self-manage priorities and deliverables. Flexible in responding to changing demands, goals, timelines, and priorities
- Ability to collaborate and lead in a flexible, detail-oriented, fast-paced team environment in a changing and growing organization
- Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner, excellent critical thinker with problem-solving skills, think big and insist on highest standard while having the ability to work cooperatively in a team setting
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
