Project Kuiper is ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Kuiper Software group is responsible for all production software at Kuiper. The Software Health Automation team owns the Kuiper Software lab and provides lab as a fully managed service. We make it possible to develop, build and test the code on real hardware. In this role, you will design, build and maintain the lab infrastructure. You will be hands on, making sure lab environments are highly available, while scaling team’s processes to ensure long term success. You will work hand in hand with development teams from software and hardware as well as program management and other stakeholders to make sure we can rapidly deliver high quality software.

Key job responsibilities
* Design, set up and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware, create and maintain lab documentation
* Troubleshoot hardware, software and networking issues
* Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, solving complex technical challenges around developer and engineering productivity and velocity especially as it relates to rapid test iteration
* Drive adoption of best practices in testbed maintainability
* Manage equipment stock, procure lab equipment
* Participate in lab on-call rotation to ensure lab equipment uptime meets SLA
* Provide lab services to people working remotely (be the eyes and hands in the lab)
* Provide technical support to customers using the lab

A day in the life
The successful applicant will be experienced in keeping technical infrastructure running smoothly and balancing high priority issues. You should be comfortable taking on ambiguous challenges like setting up new pre-production hardware for the first time. You should be able to define standard operating procedures, metrics and alarms to keep the infrastructure highly available and expand technical capabilities over time. You will be invaluable to enabling the team to move quickly and confidently with robust infrastructure that scales with our customers.

About the team
The Kuiper Software Health Automation team owns labs and tools for developing and verifying the quality of our networking software. This software will be operating both on the ground and in space. The team raises our high quality bar before our software reaches customers.

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable industry experience.
* 2+ years of non-internship professional IT experience in any of the following: test lab support, operational hardware support.
* 2+ years experience organizing and maintaining stock of critical test equipment, third party devices, prototype devices for troubleshooting and debug.
* 2+ years experience in project management skills including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing own tasks and those of other team members for multiple projects.
* Manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers.
* Highly organized and autonomous, very detail oriented and willing to learn new skills.

* Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating system
* Experience in computer networking (admin level) in a Consumer Electronics (or similar) lab environment.
* Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools as needed to support the organization
* Experience in developing/maintaining product test harnesses
* Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
* Experience with embedded systems and consumer devices
* Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
* Experience in the use of standard electronic lab test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $189,900/year in our highest geographic market.
