Amazon’s AGI Information is seeking an exceptional Senior Applied Scientist to drive science advancements in the Structured Information Retrieval team (SIR). SIR is re-inventing structured information retrieval from knowledge graphs for the LLM-era, optimizing for LLM grounding and other LLM-based customer experiences. At the same time, SIR is innovating to optimize knowledge graph ontology for LLM understanding.

We're looking for a Sr Applied Scientist to join us in sunny Santa Barbara and help us build this future. As a member of the SIR team, you will have the opportunity to work on interesting cutting edge problems with immediate customer impact. Your initial focus will be on automatic query generation, and you will also have the opportunity to work with scientists working on the other challenges, and with the engineering teams that deliver the science advancements to our customers.

A successful candidate has a strong machine learning and LLM background, is a master of state of the art techniques, has a strong publication record, has a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas, and has a track record of delivering to customers. Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will leverage your technical expertise and experience to demonstrate leadership in tackling large complex problems. You will collaborate with applied scientists and engineers to develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to build automated retrieval solutions that delivers fresh factual knowledge to our customers.

Your first responsibility will be to solve automatic query generation to enable efficient structured information retrieval from the Knowledge graph. You will develop generic solutions that are able to generate queries to retrieve complex information and answer multi hops questions for any domains of knowledge. You will define a roadmap to make progress incrementally and you will insist on scientific rigor, leading by example.

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

- Experience with large scale machine learning systems such as profiling and debugging and understanding of system performance and scalability
- Hands-on experience with LLMs
- Publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, IJCAI, SIGIR, ISWC)
- Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing System and graph databases.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market.
