Amazon is seeking a Support Engineer to join the AVM (AWS Vulnerability Management) organization. Our organization is accountable for the end-to-end software vulnerability lifecycle across all aspects of AWS. We are responsible for building the platform that monitors intelligence, detects vulnerabilities, drives remediation response, and drives innovation to meet the scale and demand of all AWS customers. Working with teams such as EC2, S3, RDS, CloudHSM, Containers, and Amazon Linux requires us to dive deep into all aspects of first- and third-party software across AWS including Operating Systems, firmware, databases, service/system hardening, cryptography, and audit analysis. We are passionate about diving deep to identify and build solutions that keep our customers safe.

Key job responsibilities
As a vulnerability management support engineer you will be primarily responsible for working with AWS internal services through a variety of contact channels which include telephone, email, and web/live chat. You will apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide solutions for our service teams on how to remediate vulnerabilities. You will find ways to improve and automate our existing services, and provide escalation and mentoring for junior team members. The right candidate for this position has a strong technical background in systems administration that allows them to approach any problem with confidence and ingenuity. They must be a "lifelong learner", embracing the rapid innovations in technology and understanding how to leverage them to continue to improve our products. They will be customer-obsessed, always looking to understand customer pain points and find resolution quickly and completely. They will be passionate about finding innovative solutions, and work proactively to solve potential problems and inefficiencies. And they must be able to communicate clearly and collaborate with others to deliver results with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate is one who loves working directly with software developers and system administrators to support and provide remediation guidance of vulnerabilities while understanding their needs and services. You will have the opportunity to engage with systems that are at the cutting edge of technology. You will work directly with AWS service teams, partner security teams, and administrative teams to identify opportunities to improve our security posture. You will drive process improvements, and work with service owners and cutting-edge technology to help mitigate risk and support service teams on complex technical challenges.

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 3+ years of network and operating system support experience
- 3+ years of database administration experience
- 3+ years of distributed systems experience
- 3+ years of information security and compliance experience
- 3+ years of technical support experience
- Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or relevant work experience
- Proficient in at least one scripting language like BASH, Python, Perl, etc.
- Exposure to cloud computing concepts and design considerations
- Deep hands-on expertise with many disparate AWS technologies.
- Experience with vulnerability assessments tools like Qualys, Rapid7, Nessus, etc.
- Exposure to virtualization and orchestration
- Have experience generating automated metrics to measure service and program effectiveness and consistency
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Possess self-drive to keep moving things forward even in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge (avoid “analysis paralysis”)
