Amazon Robotics empowers a smarter, faster, more consistent customer experience through automation. Amazon Robotics automates fulfillment center operations using various methods of robotic technology including autonomous mobile robots, sophisticated control software, language perception, power management, computer vision, depth sensing, machine learning, object recognition and tracking, and semantic understanding of commands. This engineering leadership role provides the opportunity to be a part of and lead our most important product suite yet. This system is responsible for disrupting the industry standards in how we identify items and packages across the fulfillment network. We are looking for a leader that can help the team continue to innovate our novel product while also preparing the product and solution for rapid scale and adoption by customers. The position provides a unique opportunity to lead, develop and grow a diverse and skilled team of engineers, program managers and applied scientists and collaborate cross functionally with multiple customers and stakeholders, all invested in maximizing the value the system provides. Your role will be to help the team improve the product’s high performance and reliability in a fast and iterative manner, while growing new skills in technical domains the team is involved in. You will drive priorities for the team’s roadmap, balancing investment into the product growth and operational health of the different systems, all while making history and having fun.
Key job responsibilities
- Building, leading and growing diverse, inclusive and high-performing engineering product teams, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, promoting and performance management of engineers and scientists.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including customers, product managers, stakeholders and leaders to ensure the successful delivery of product capabilities
- Timely execution and prioritization of goals for the team and effectively mitigating risks.
- Strategic leadership to create product roadmaps, set the vision for the team and collaboratively partner with other stakeholder teams.
- Technical leadership including architecture and design discussions for science and engineering problems and technical deep dives to ensure resolution of root causes of complex issues,
- Manage the operational support of products at scale to ensure prevention and timely resolution of customer impactful problems.

About the team
The Scanless Technology organization builds products that eliminate the need for explicit scanning in the Amazon Fulfillment Network. We research, design, and implement solutions for automated identification of objects and object movement by removing the need for manual scanning of identifiers, like barcodes. We integrate hardware, software, and machine learning, developing products that are solution-agnostic while enabling easy integration from installation to execution. We push the boundaries of our current solutions to simplify and solve customer challenges and impact many areas of Amazon’s operations. For our associates, our systems affect user experience by improving safety and ergonomics. For our large fleet or robots, they improve overall throughput and efficiency.
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in Computer Science (CS), Computer Engineering (CE), Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Applied Mathematics or other algorithmic-centric discipline.
- 3+ years of experience as a software developer in Java, Kotlin, C++ and/or Python
- Knowledge of engineering best practices and the full software development life cycle including prototyping, designs, code quality, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and operational support.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with both technical and business people. Ability to speak at a level appropriate for the audience and collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
- 3+ years of experience in building, leading and growing diverse and inclusive engineering teams of at least 6-8 people, including recruiting, mentoring, promoting and performance management.
- Experience with delivering and supporting engineering products at scale.
- Experience with design and delivery of computer vision, machine learning, optical system, edge based software development on local compute or robotics products.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary product teams of Engineers, Quality Assurance, Program Managers and Scientists.
- Experience with on premise and cloud software development.
- Experience with new business development and kicking off new initiatives from prototype to scaled delivery.
