The Sr. UXR will apply deep domain knowledge in Human Factors and Cognitive Psychology to tackle today’s most challenging questions. You’ll lead research initiatives that directly shape our most advanced and complex digital and physical experiences, working closely with cross-functional partners across design, product management, and engineering. You will be part of a growing, multidisciplinary team of designers, researchers, and technologists shaping and simplifying the fulfillment center experience through a human-centered design process. AFT-XD offers experiences across rapidly evolving devices, and our projects range from iterative UX design on tactical initiatives to strategic efforts that rethink how fulfillment centers operate. You’ll have a voice in defining and selecting projects where design can have the greatest impact, with opportunities to grow your career in a supportive environment. Our team includes senior designers, user researchers, design technologists, and front-end engineers, as well as mentorship from Amazon’s broader design community. In this role, you’ll take a leadership position in setting research strategy and driving it across multiple products and domains. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and research peers to understand and address both known and unknown research needs. You’ll also design and conduct research activities, applying your expertise in research methods and best practices while embracing a nimble, creative, and pragmatic approach. This position allows you to push the boundaries of user research within an Agile product development environment, significantly impacting our business by informing and shaping a new collection of products and services.
Key job responsibilities
- Apply expertise in Human Factors, cognitive science, and experimental design to lead research initiatives that inform the design of advanced, complex experiences.
- Help product teams and leadership define the right research questions to ask.
- Proactively identify user needs and problems, initiating the research process to develop high-quality research plans and actionable insights.
- Define and execute research methods tailored to the problem, including field research, lab studies, remote testing, biometric testing, and A/B tests.
- Analyze primary and secondary data to provide focused, insightful, and actionable findings.
- Translate insights into measurable customer experience outcomes aligned with business goals.
- Collaborate with partners to design innovative end-to-end solutions, iterating and testing until goals are achieved or hypotheses are refined.
- Communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to different audiences and levels of the organization.
- Advance knowledge management frameworks to inform decision-making and prioritize investments.

Experience Design
AFT’s Experience Design team shapes and simplifies the fulfillment center experience by delivering inclusive solutions that work for everyone, from the screen interface to the larger ecosystem in which our products are used.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of proven success leading customer focused research projects resulting in the delivery of world-class experiences with measurable business impact.
- A BS or equivalent degree in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Human Factors, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with a full range of Human Factors methods and tools, including allocation of function and biometric assessment.
- Broad UX research and analysis skills, (e.g., designing, conducting, and analyzing data generated though a range of research methods.)
- Advanced knowledge of statistical methods.
- A portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g., study plans, reports).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced Degree (e.g. MS or PhD in Human Factors, Experimental, or Cognitive Psychology).
- Research experience involving technically complex, and highly advanced consumer product interfaces.
- Self-starter who possesses flexibility to work in a fast-changing environment and ambiguous situations.
- Experience incorporating research with agile software development.
- Ability to meet ambitious deadlines and deliver high-quality work on schedule, including quickly turning around study plans and reports.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and good business judgment.
- Proven history of having worked across cross-functional teams and functions.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $137,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $226,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
