We are looking for an innovative Architect or Interior Designer to join the Store Design Team for Amazon physical retail who will focus on open store retrofit and remodel projects. In this role you need to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work effectively in a highly collaborative environment. You are the right person for this job if you are a creative problem solver with an intense curiosity and a passion for customers. You must demonstrate the ability to efficiently drive multiple projects throughout all phases of design, permitting and construction administration. In this position you will collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams at many levels. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and has a deep passion for innovative retail design. We are looking for someone who is obsessed with creating world-class shopping experiences for our customers. Outstanding project management and communication skills, both written and verbal are required.

Key job responsibilities
• Review previous project documentation ensuring current store conditions, jurisdictional and landlord requirements are incorporated into your design solution
• Ability to understand the constraints of an existing space, the scope of changes and intent required to successfully implement solutions that meet the needs of our customers
• Managing external consultants’ production of comprehensive design documentation and permitting
• The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills to ensure on time delivery and adherence to budgets
• Providing clear and concise communication with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
• Coordinating with estimating and construction teams on budget considerations and value engineering efforts
• Gain landlord approvals as required per lease requirements
• Translating brand and programmatic design standards into site specific solutions
• Reviewing construction documents, shop drawings and landlord documentation
• Providing Construction Administrative support as needed
• Demonstrated ability in building and health codes, 3D visualization, and industry trends
• Demonstrated ability to communicate design vision in visual, written, and verbal formats
• The ability to work effectively in an extremely fast paced, ambiguous environment
• Solutions focused, proactive and flexible attitude; willingness to take an “all hands-on deck” approach

Prior experience remodeling in an open store environment and oversight of consultant performance is critical. This candidate must have a professional and positive demeanor and possess the ability to communicate effectively with business partners at every level, including leadership. In this role you must be able to act as the primary source of contact but still have the confidence to ask for help.

About the team
Our retail store formats are designed from the ground up to offer a seamless shopping experience, whether customers are shopping in-store or online. Our designs are customer obsessed, focusing on customers shopping in our stores and ensures that our operations team can work safely and efficiently.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in architecture or interior design
• 5+ years of commercial retail design or architecture experience
• Grocery Experience
• Ability to manage change though multiple projects in various phases of design
• Experience with design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration
• Proven track record of owning projects from start to finish
• Architecture/Retail Design – throughout all phases of design
• Intermediate Revit skills required
• 30% travel expected

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Architectural background preferred
• Knowledge of current sustainability trends and practices preferred
• SketchUp, Bluebeam, Enscape, InDesign and Photoshop experience a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $175,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
