Corporate Counsel, Government & Regulatory Litigation (GRL)
Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a smart, experienced, and highly motivated litigator to help manage its worldwide portfolio of litigation and regulatory matters, and advise the company on a wide variety of cutting-edge legal and business risk management issues.
Responsibilities include:
- Handling, managing, and supervising a wide range of domestic and international disputes and regulatory engagements.
- Directly interacting with government officials, including regulators and law enforcement.
- Directing overall case and matter strategy, including selecting and managing outside counsel.
- Assessing risk and coordinating with senior leadership on risk management.
- Managing responses to discovery requests.
This role will primarily handle disputes and potential disputes related to the World Wide Operations organization, which is Amazon’s global logistics and transportation business that fulfills orders and delivers packages to customers. The World Wide Operations business includes warehouse operations, Prime Air drone delivery, electric bicycle delivery, workplace and environmental safety, sustainability, and global trade compliance.
This position reports to an Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Regulatory, and is part of Amazon’s Government & Regulatory Litigation team. The position may be located in Arlington, Virginia; Seattle, Washington; or New York, New York.
Minimum Requirements:
- J.D. degree (or equivalent), and membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
- At least five years of litigation and regulatory experience.
- Hands-on experience in complex domestic and/or international business litigation, including trial experience and counseling parties and witnesses in pre-dispute and dispute resolution contexts.
- Federal judicial clerkship.
- Federal or state government service, including government litigation experience.
- Law firm experience.
- Trial experience.
- Ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous environments.
- Familiarity with Internet, software, and/or media industries and the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate.
- Ability to work as a team player who can work cooperatively, efficiently, and effectively with other lawyers, and business clients, paralegals, and assistants.
- Demonstrated proficiency in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization.
- Experience in crisis management and response.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound and practical business judgment, strong common sense, and a great sense of humor.
- Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
