Job summary
Amazon is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to help pioneer the reporting framework for an emerging Transportation business. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will own the roadmap, strategy, and infrastructure for critical Operational and Financial reports used to manage the business. You will partner with and understand the needs of geographically-dispersed leads. You will develop and manage a feature roadmap that contains near, medium, and long-term enhancements. You will advise the BI lead and stakeholders on the milestones and associated prioritization. Collectively, your work will enable the business to drive better business decisions, and empower stakeholders to understand their business and customers in new ways.

The Business Intelligence Engineer will have the tools for success. You will have access to (and help develop) a rich and growing dataset. You will use AWS’s growing list of data solutions including: Redshift, Athena, Sagemaker, and Redshift Spectrum. You will create visualizations using Tableau, Tableau Server, and Amazon Quicksight. You will receive support from your Business Intelligence colleagues, a team of Data Engineers, and Business Intelligence Lead.

A successful candidate will understand and anticipate stakeholder needs and think big when recommending solutions. A successful candidate will be comfortable navigating an ambiguous environment; know how to confirm and reconfirm assumptions; and be comfortable advocating for the right set of priorities. A successful candidate will contribute to the team, proactively seek and provide feedback on technical designs, and build for the long-term.

Day-to-Day Expectations

  1. Define and manage a long-term vision to improve the customer experience and business results through creating scalable metrics, analysis, visualizations, and data-driven storytelling.
  2. Prioritize business insight requests; balance the tactical and strategic information needs of the business.
  3. Collaborate and partner with Operations teams to understand, anticipate, and respond to current and future needs.
  4. Lead the definition and governance of key business metrics, drive the vision and building of self-service analytic capabilities, and engineer data-driven processes that drive business value.
  5. Connect with the Amazon community of data professionals to stay current on technology trends, data tools and techniques to improve the performance of the team.
  6. Create and foster an environment that values and promotes an inclusive approach to problem solving and continuous learning to improve.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of professional or military experience
- 5+ years of SQL experience
- Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
- Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
